High school teams vie for national title

Gallaudet University hosts the 10th annual National Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing High School Students.

(Washington) It has come down to this. Ten teams go for one title.

Gallaudet University presents the 10th annual National Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing High School Students, taking place April 22-25 in Washington, DC.

The event, celebrating a decade of spirited competition, brings together the best and brightest minds from around the country. Regional competitions were held across the nation, and the two top teams earned a spot in the finals.

An added wrinkle to this year’s competition is the inclusion of at-large teams on the regional level in two of the five regions. This will allow teams on waiting lists in their own regions to travel to other regions to compete. According to organizers, adding at-large teams ensures that the country’s best and brightest deaf and hard of hearing students have an opportunity to compete.

The National Academic Bowl is sponsored by Gallaudet University and its five regional centers around the country. This year’s national sponsors are the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, Sorenson Video Relay Service and Verizon.

Since its inception in 1997, the National Academic Bowl’s purpose has been to foster the pursuit of academic excellence, promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship, and encourage social opportunities for collegiality among students.
