---------------------------------------------------------------------

Kingman, AZ October 05, 2005 Local Educators and members of the AZRid (Arizona Registered Interpreters for the Deaf) has responded to KUHS teacher Rae Henson's appeal for financial support to send 10 of her finest ASL students to the TRIX BRUCE Classifier Workshop in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Ms. Henson who is also a member of the Colorado River Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CRADHH) said that these senior high school students are "future interpreters" of the Mohave Valley.

At the present, deaf communities that resides along the COLORADO RIVER AREA is suffering from the scarcity of certified interpreters. "We just don't have any at all" Henson exclaimed and "sending these students will probably a "solution" to this problem". Henson believes in "growing our own breed of interpreters" in the area is important. Whether these students will pursue a career in interpreting or advocacy for the deaf, by attending workshops and classes like those of Ms. Bruce, I firmly believe that as their teacher I have the responsibility to point them to the right direction."

After posting an email to several local educators and to the AZRid email tree we have responses within 3 minutes after the letter was posted. So far responding to the call are the following: KUSD Special Education Supervisor Beth Ferry, AZRid newly elected President Patty Meyer and associate Kathy Majors, Lead Interpreter of the Houston Elementary School of the Gilbert Public School District Cassie McCord.

We are still looking for sponsors for the other students and if you would like to help a student attend the Classifier Workshop on October 28, 2005, for more information:
