Tom Willard Launches New Photographic Website

ROCHESTER, N.Y.(Oct. 1, 2004) -- Tom Willard has created a new website for his photographic work and invites interested people to visit at http://www.tomwillard.com/.

Willard was born and raised in the 1960s and '70s in suburban New Jersey. He started taking pictures around the age of 10, at the same time that he started to become hearing impaired. His hearing worsened, and by 20 he was profoundly deaf.

As a student with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Willard earned a bachelor's degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985. He went on to establish and direct Deaf Artists of America, a national nonprofit organization.

Willard was editor of Silent News and Newswaves and worked for the Greater Los Angeles Council on Deafness (GLAD) for two years while living in California. He and his wife Tracey and children Becky and Kevin returned to Rochester last year, and he now devotes his time to various writing and photographic projects.

Visitors to the new website will find more than 150 images spanning over 35 years of photography. They are presented in six galleries:

CALIFORNIA: Recent pictures from Southern California
LOS ANGELES MIRACLE PICTURES: Slides uniquely water-damaged while in L.A. storage
MY WIFE AND KIDS IN L.A.: A family album of a three-year stay in Los Angeles
THE WONDERING YEARS: A photographic journey into deafness
DEAF SCHOOL: Favorite pictures taken at college in the 1980s
OLD FAVORITES: Popular images from over the years

Most of the images on the website are available for purchase as high-quality matted and signed fine-art photographs. Framing is also available. As a special introductory offer, 5x7 matted "mini-pix" of California images are available for just $10 each, offering a low-cost way to acquire original fine-art photographs.
