Escort Of Deaf And Dumb Person To Get Train Fare Concession

The Ministry of Railways has issued orders granting concession in train fares to one escort accompanying a totally deaf and dumb person on single journey tickets and season tickets from September 6, 2004.

The element of concession will be 50 per cent in First, Second and Sleeper classes as well as in season tickets. The concession is same as admissible to a deaf and dumb person. With this, a combined ticket will be issued to the deaf and dumb person and the escort. In the case of deaf and dumb child under five years of age, who is otherwise eligible for free travel, the escort accompanying the child will get such concession.

This follows announcement by the Minister of Railways in his Budget 2004-2005 speech in the Lok Sabha on July 6, 2004.
