Deaf Sports: El-Rufai Releases N5.1m

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has approved the release of N5.1 million to the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF) out of the N8 million they requested to enable them organise a football competition.

The Secretary General of the Federation, Mr. Lukman Agbabika said yesterday the Federation was grateful to the Minister having suffered rejection and non-recognition in the past.

He said the competition was to raise the status of the deaf in the society having been frustrated and discouraged in the past.

He said 12 states were penciled down for the competition which began on Saturday but only eight states showed up. He blamed the inability of the remaining for absent states to turn up for the competition on the non-recognition of the deaf in the states.
