Developers Of Sign-Language Town Focus On Location

From: KELOLAND, United States - Mar 5, 2004

Developers of a town that would be known for its use of American sign language are focusing on a site in McCook County. M.E. Barwacz and Marvin Miller, both of Sioux Falls, want to build a town to be called Laurent.

Barwacz says developers are looking at a site near the intersection of Interstate 90 and US Highway 81 south of Salem. She says once land is secured, they'll ask the county to designate the property as a Community Improvement District.

The designation would let developers to set up local government and plan a new town before anybody lives there. It's a system that was used 16 years ago when other developers created Dakota Dunes in Union County.
