FAIRBAULT, Minn. - The Iowa School for the Deaf girls basketball team ran into some tough competition over the weekend, falling to Minnesota School for the Deaf 49-19 Friday and Model, Washington, D.C., 47-37.

Against Minnesota Deaf, Jada Hart scored 12 points and Katie Romey pulled down five rebounds.

The Bobcats played better against Model.

The first quarter proved to be their downfall, as they were behind 18-1 after the first quarter.

"We just couldn't get started," said Iowa Deaf head coach Mike Shannon. "They couldn't miss and we couldn't buy a basket."

Karen Ruckman paced the Bobcat effort with 13 points and five rebounds. Romey had 11 points and six rebounds. Hart scored eight points, had five steals and dished out three assists. Meredith Kasal had 14 rebounds.

"It was a good trip," said Shannon. "We're going to build on it.
