North Dakota School for the Deaf says program a success

Associated Press

DEVILS LAKE - Officials say a new job-training program at the North Dakota School for the Deaf here has been a success.

Students are paired with employers in the region to gain work experience and are provided with interpreters to make the transition easier.

The effort began this school year and students have completed the training course.

"The students who are in it are so pleased," said Scott Craven, the school's vocational administrator. "And a lot of students are real anxious to get out and try it."

The first students to take part in the program were Matthew Klassy and Casey Guillemette.

Klassy took on a job at Klemetsrud's Plumbing & Heating. Guillemette has been working in Environmental Services in Mercy Hospital.
