NTID's Instructional Television Wins Two Awards

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 16-The National Technical Institute for the Deaf's Instructional Television Department has earned both a bronze Telly award and a Certificate for Creative Excellence from the International Film and Video Festival (IFVF) for a videotape series that highlights careers of deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

The Telly awards recognize outstanding non-network and cable television work worldwide, while the IFVF recognizes superior quality and creativity. Achieving Goals: Phenomenal Professionals and Achieving Goals! Brilliant at Business are part of a joint project between NTID, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and the Northeast Technical Assistance Center (NETAC), a federally funded program that supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

"Achieving Goals is designed as a resource for secondary schools, colleges, universities and other programs to make deaf and hard-of-hearing students aware of diverse career possibilities," said Patricia Billies, NETAC project coordinator.

The award-winning video features deaf professionals from traditionally underserved populations, and includes an optometrist, an attorney, a pediatrician, and a veterinarian. The second volume includes NTID/RIT graduate Jimmy Libman, owner of Gimmee Jimmy's Cookies in West Orange, N.J.

NTID, one of eight colleges of RIT, offers educational programs and access and support services to its 1,100 students from around the world who study, live and socialize with 14,000 hearing students on RIT's Rochester, N.Y., campus.
