Charter Day Luncheon and Awards Program on April 5.

Washington, DC—The Gallaudet University Alumni Association (GUAA) and the Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund (LCCF) will host the 34th annual Charter Day Luncheon and Awards Program on Saturday, April 5, 2003 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Gallaudet University Kellogg Conference Center.

The award recipients for this year are:

Joshua Finkle, ’92, of New York, will receive the GUAA Outstanding young Alumnus Award.

Agnes Dunn Sutcliffe, ’59, of Maryland, will receive the GUAA Pauline “Polly” Peikoff, E-’36, “Service to Others” Award.

Kevin Nolan, Sr., of Maryland, will receive the LCCF Laurent Clerc Award.

Rev. Thomas Coughlin, ’72, California, will receive the LCCF Alice Cogswell Award.

Nilwan Pitipat of Thailand, will receive the LCCF Edward Miner Gallaudet Award.

Dr. Israel Sela, G-’86, of Israel, will also receive the LCCF Edward Miner Gallaudet Award posthumously.

Henry Kisor of Illinois, will receive the LCCF Amos Kendall Award.

The GUAA is also sponsoring pre-Charter Day presentations. On Thursday, April 3 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Agnes Sutcliffe will talk about the Joys of a Volunteer. Her presentation will be in the Student Academic Center Multimedia Theatre.

On Friday, April 4, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Ely Auditorium, Rev. Thomas Coughlin will talk on The Art of Overcoming Obstacles to the Roman Catholic Priesthood. Joshua Finkle will talk about Community Activism from 2 pm. to 3 p.m. in the Ely Auditorium. Guest speakers Nilwan Pitipat, Kritsana Lonlua, and Charles Reilly, will discuss, Strategies in Deaf Community Development: A Case from the Kingdom of Thailand. This discussion will be held in the Student Academic Center Auditorium from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. All presentations are free.
