Gallaudet President Appointed Washington Board of Trade Director

Washington, DC—I. King Jordan was recently appointed to the Board of
Directors of the Greater Washington Board of Trade. Jordan is president of
Gallaudet University, the only university in the world with all academic and
extracurricular programs designed specifically for deaf and hard of hearing
students.

The Greater Washington Board of Trade is the largest regional network of
business and non-profit leaders and the only group representing all industry
sectors. The Board of Trade’s 1,350 member companies employ 40 percent of
the Greater Washington’s private-sector workforce.

Founded in 1889, the Greater Washington Board of Trade operates a variety of
programs to further its mission. Examples include The Community Business
Partnership which links Board of Trade member firms with small
neighborhood-based businesses to expand their markets and build stronger
neighborhoods; CapNet, a bipartisan political action committee which is the
voice of the technology industry on Capitol Hill; International Gateway,
which helps Board of Trade member firms stay connected to the global
business community; and several other projects that help promote the area
encompassing the District of Columbia, northern Virginia and suburban
Maryland.

“I am honored to serve on the board of the Greater Washington Board of
Trade,” said Jordan, Gallaudet’s CEO for the past 15 years. “This
University, along with others located in Greater Washington, contributes
significantly to the educational, social and economic well-being of our city
and region.”

Jordan will join the other 110 board members at its first meeting of 2003 on
January 21.
