(CBS) (RIVERSIDE, Calif.) The cheerleading squad at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside has a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be the first deaf school in the country to compete in a national competition -- but first, they have to come up with the money to get there.

The cheerleading team, comprised of five boys and five girls, recently won the 2003 Aloha International Spirit Championships bid, and have since been desperately trying to raise enough money to get them to the event, Feb. 14-15 at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The team has been selling sweatshirts and collecting money from admissions to their home basketball games. They also have put on a raffle for an Alumni game event, but they are still $3,800 short of the $6,000 they need to pay for airfare, hotel and other expenses and are now asking for help from local businesses or anyone willing to sponsor them.

According to the team, their deadline is drawing near -- they must come up with the money by Jan. 13 to secure arrangements for their Feb. 13 departure.

To make a donation, click here for more information or call (909) 782-6619. They will provide a tax write-off receipt and will print all of their sponsors on the back of T-shirts that they will wear to Hawaii.
