Patsy Shank, a longtime teacher and administrator at the West Virginia School for the Deaf in Romney, was named superintendent of West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind Thursday.
Meeting in Greenbrier County, the state Board of Education unanimously approved Shank’s appointment. She replaces Jane McBride, who announced her retirement earlier this year, and takes over July 1, according to the state Department of Education.
A Keyser native, Shank joined the staff of the West Virginia School for the Deaf in 1981 as a science teacher. She also has served as grants coordinator, staff development coordinator and technology coordinator for both schools.
