Hawk Relay to sponsor the USA Winter Team to the 2007 Deaflympics

Salt Lake City, UT Jan. 30, 2007 – Hawk Relay is a proud sponsor of the USA Winter Team to the 16th Winter Deaflympics which will take place February 1 to 10. The USA Winter Team will compete for the gold alongside deaf athletes around the world in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The USA Deaf Sports Federation trains the athletes selected to represent the USA Team at the Deaflympics. USADSF is sending fifty-six players to compete in five sports events. Such sports include Curling, Alpine and Nordic Skiing, Ice Hockey and Snowboarding.

The Curling team has a fresh new start with first-time athletes competing for gold. The team will play their first round on February 6th at Steiner Ice Center.

USA Alpine Skiing Team consists of ten players, coached by Dickinson and Bonura who have served as coaches at previous Deaflympics. The USA Team has five returning Deaflympians and additional five new members. The team will be competing at Park City Mountain Resort throughout the Deaflympics.

There is one athlete representing the USA team in Nordic Skiing. He is coming back to the Deaflympics as a repeat team member.

Twenty-three athletes were selected for the 2007 US Ice Hockey Team. The final pool of athletes trained at Colorado Springs, CO before the Deaflympics. There are twelve team members with previous Deaflympics experience. The USA Team is coached by Jeffrey Sauer. The Ice Hockey Team will have their first game on February 2nd against Russia, which will take place at Steiner Ice Center.

The USA Winter Snowboarding Team will bring in ten players, coached by Will Garrow. The team will continue training at Park City Mountain Resort until February 3 and begin competing on February 4.
