Nassau Man Dies After Altercation At Yulee Bowling Alley

YULEE, Fla. -- The Nassau County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 22-year-old man after an altercation at a bowling alley late Friday night.

Deputies called to the Yulee Bowling Center about 11:30 p.m. found three men restraining Bruce Doss, who they said had caused a disturbance in the bar. Deputies said Doss was unresponsive and he was transported to Nassau Baptist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Sheriff Tommy Seagraves, Doss, who is deaf, got into an employee who was escorting Doss out of the bowling alley.

"He had actually physically touched some females, supposedly, in there," Seagraves said. "That's what caused the disturbance inside to lead to them asking him to leave because of his intoxication and also due to the inappropriate actions he caused."

According to deputies, three patrons followed Doss outside. The men told investigators they followed him because he was deaf and intoxicated and running toward busy U.S. 17. They said they held him down so he wouldn't get hurt.

Doss' mother maintains her son was killed. Investigators haven not ruled that out.

"Anything's a possibility at this point," Seagraves told Channel 4' s Emily Pantelides. "We're still conducting our investigation; we're still talking to witnesses."
