STATEMENT BY I KING JORDAN
ON REOPENING OF GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY


“The DC police have intervened here today and we want to be sure no one gets hurt. Students have the right to protest, but you do not have the right to close the gates and to halt the education for all of our students – from university students to our kindergartners.

“The dissenters must stop blocking the entrances to campus and to buildings; that is what presents a safety hazard. I will hold a meeting with Assistant Chief Wilson of Metropolitan Police Department and the student leaders to discuss the MPD’s role in reopening our University. “
