Grant Funding Available

The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers is seeking a qualified entity or entities to develop and implement a nation-wide education program to the Deaf Community.

More specifically, this new program will provide culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate education to the diverse population of Deaf, hard of hearing and Deaf-Blind individuals regarding their rights to communication access as it pertains to interpreting.

The program is being developed in four phases. The first phase of the Deaf Advocacy Program focuses on “Identifying Effective Practices Related to Enhancing the Deaf Community’s Ability to Self Advocate for Their Rights to Communication Access.”

The Application for Phase 1 funding will be available online on September 15th, 2006 at www.asl.neu.edu/nciec/. Applications will be due October 30, 2006. Work is anticipated to begin on December 15, 2006 and be completed by June 15, 2007.

NCIEC invites any and all qualified applicants. Preference will be given to qualified Deaf, hard of hearing or Deaf-Blind entities.
