Working for deaf people

From: Swindon Evening Advertiser, UK - Apr 6, 2006

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS AWARDS: SCHOOL teacher Glenn Sedgwick is obviously well-liked by his pupils having been nominated for and then winning our Teacher Champion award.

The Moredon Junior School teacher is not only a teacher but also a fundraiser who has been working tirelessly on behalf of the deaf community.

Deaf himself and wearing a cochlear implant, Mr Sedgwick works hard travelling across Swindon working to make people more aware of issues effecting deaf people as well as raising money for charity.

At school, he teaches the choir and then goes on to give them lessons in sign language and has also worked with firms to trial new primary school teaching methods for deaf children.

He also gives up his time to take severely disabled children on holiday giving their parents a bit of respite.
