From: Seahawks Online, MD - Apr 11, 2006

Washington D.C. -- Sophomore right fielder Ryan D'Antuono (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning in leading the St. Mary's (Md.) baseball team to an 11-3 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) victory over Gallaudet on Tuesday afternoon. It was the only hit on the afternoon for D'Antuono, but it set the tone for the Seahawks and game them a lead they would not relinquish.

The Seahawks claimed a 5-0 lead after the first inning and added one run in each of the second and third innings for a 7-0 lead before Gallaudet broke onto the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. St. Mary's added single runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings for a 9-2 lead after five.

Gallaudet added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning but the Seahawks quickly responded and scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning when sophomore designated hitter Michael Broccolino (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) singled and knocked in two.

Broccolino finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with his two RBI and one run scored. Senior third baseman Andrew Sohn (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Senior first baseman Chris D'Antuono (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. He joined his brother by hitting a home run in the same contest when he hit a solo shot in the top of the second inning.

Senior Ray Simmons (Bowie, MD/Bowie) started and earned the win on the mound for St. Mary's. Simmons (1-2) went five full innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Senior Zach Siegel (Richmond, IN/Richmond Hills) threw the final four innings in relief. Siegel allowed one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts in the contest.

The Seahawks will return to action on Wednesday, April 12, when they travel to York (Pa.) for a CAC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
