Call for film submissions for the 2007 Deaf Rochester Film Festival

From: Deaf Rochester Film Festival - Apr 28, 2006

Call for Entries for the Second Deaf Rochester Film Festival
Rochester, New York, USA

Festival Dates: March 23-25, 2007
Submission Deadline: October 15, 2006

During the first Deaf Rochester Film Festival, held in 2005, nationally known Deaf cinema expert Dr. Jane Norman emphasized that Deaf filmmakers may have a unique style of filmmaking carried over from sign language storytelling, camera shots or editing. Consequently, the Deaf Rochester Film Festival again seeks culturally authentic films by Deaf filmmakers who are students or professionals and who use film to communicate the Deaf experience or visual aesthetics. Filmmakers from cultures outside of the United States also welcomed.

The second Deaf Rochester Film Festival, to be held in Rochester, New York, March 23-25, 2007, will showcase experimental films and shorts by local, national, and international filmmakers as well as student filmmakers. All filmmakers involved with the Deaf experience in some way, either personally as a Deaf person or peripherally as a Deaf community member or observer, are encouraged to share their work at this film festival. Films may include full length features, student films, documentaries and animation shorts that address the Deaf experience and/or visual aesthetics of Deaf filmmakers.

The festival's website is: http://www.ntid.rit.edu/drff/

The regulations for film submissions follow:

1. Films may be of any length.

2. Animation, documentaries, films for children and experimental work are welcomed.

3. Deaf film students and Deaf professional filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work.

4. Technical notice: All films must be in VHS (NTSC) or VHS (PAL).

5. Films submitted will not be returned. They will remain in the DRFF archives housed at Wallace Memorial Library at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.

The first Deaf Rochester Film Festival, held in March 2005, was a huge success, with all films sold out in advance of screening.

THE DEADLINE for entries for the second Deaf Rochester Film Festival is October 15, 2006. Notification of acceptances / rejections will happen no later than November 15, 2006.
