NTID Appoints Outreach Coordinator

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 20—Mary C. Essex of Brighton has been named outreach coordinator for Outreach and Transition Services at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology.

She will manage outreach programs for all external audiences, including NTID's Explore Your Future and other career awareness programs for middle and high school students throughout the country.

Essex most recently was a research assistant for World Bank's Latin America Caribbean Region. She also was program director for International Blue Crescent in Istanbul, Turkey, and project manager for Association Pro Development of People with Disabilities in Lima, Peru. She is fluent in English, American Sign Language, Turkish, Turkish Sign Language, Spanish, and Peruvian Sign Language.

Essex received her master's degree in Education Administration from California State University, Northridge and her bachelor's degree in Social Work from Rochester Institute of Technology.

NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. One of eight colleges of RIT, NTID offers educational programs and access and support services to its 1,100 students from around the world who study, live, and socialize with 14,400 hearing students on RIT's Rochester, N.Y., campus.
