Centre for Hearing and Cochlear Implants opens at SGH

A first in Asia Pacific - a one-stop centre to provide holistic care to the hearing-impaired has opened at the Singapore General Hospital.

The Centre for Hearing and Cochlear Implants is a collaboration between SGH and the NKF's Children's Medical Fund.

It will provide comprehensive multi-disciplinary care such as medical and psychological therapies.

Its medical social workers will also provide support for patients and their families.

Over the next five years, the Children's Medical Fund will provide $1.6 million for the initial set-up.

In Singapore, about 200 babies are born with hearing loss annually. - CNA/ir
