Cochlear Implant Reunion Scheduled At UI Hospitals And Clinics

From: I-Newswire.com (press release) - Jun 27, 2005

Patients who have received cochlear implants for the treatment of hearing loss will attend a special reunion and picnic at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9.

The Cochlear Implant Team from the UI Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Institute will host the event. Team members expect 60 patients will attend the reunion, accompanied by approximately 140 of their family members. The event provides team members an opportunity to express their appreciation for the patients' participation in research studies that are advancing cochlear implant technology.

Cochlear implants enable patients with profound hearing loss to hear sound. UI Hospitals and Clinics is one of the world's leading medical centers in using cochlear implants to treat hearing loss. Since cochlear implants were introduced in 1982, more than 700 children and adults have been treated with the technology at the UI Hospitals and Clinics.
