Every year, People Magazine puts out their list of the 50 most beautiful. This year, a local college student made the grade. Tony Madalena is a student at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. He says, "I'm not the kind of person who likes attention, so I really wasn't sure what to do."

Tony is in a section called, "Beauties on Your Block." Ten people were selected whose stunning looks match their big hearts. Tony says, "I get to see myself next to movie stars, I think that's pretty neat."

Tony's sister, Carrie is the one who nominated him. She says he's always been there for family and friends and that's what makes him so beautiful. His mother, Karen, remembers the day "People" called.

"When she called and said she was from People Magazine, at first I thought she was trying to sell something because Carrie didn't tell anyone she nominated Tony."

Tony is studying to become a mechanical engineer. His mom says he's learned a lot more than just science at R.I.T.'s NTID program. To the people there, she says thanks, "...not only for the wonderful education, but for helping him develop into the kind of person we're very proud of."

A shy guy who has now found his place in the spotlight. "I really didn't think anyone would pay attention to it.

"A lot of people came up to me on Monday, my friends said hey, were you in a magazine or something? It's very surprising to me."
