Mum's angusih on dead son's birthday

From: ic Wales, UK - Apr 13, 2005

A FAMILY has been left devastated after their home was burgled on the anniversary of their dead son's birthday.

They had been celebrating his twin sister Alice's second birthday with a party a celebration already tinged with sadness after a visit to place flowers at little Patrick's graveside.

But the family was left grief-stricken for the second time after they woke the next day to find thieves had broken in through a kitchen window stealing a diary containing details of their deaf daughter's hospital appointments and throwing parts from her hearing aid outside.

"It's just totally heartless what they have done," said Liz Fitzgerald, 32, of Barrington Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff.

"My daughter is deaf and they even took her hearing aid batteries and little bits and pieces and threw them outside the back of the house.

"Two years ago on April 11, I gave birth to the twins, Patrick and Alice. But a month later Patrick died and Alice was left deaf because they were premature. We were absolutely grief stricken, and this happening on the same day now we're just heartbroken. I wish the thieves could know what they've done."
