MoPix News from WGBH- March 11

MOPIX UPDATE NOW SPLIT IN TWO
This is the MoPix News weekly update. It contains information about new MoPix installations, the list of films that are available now with closed captions and descriptions and those that the Hollywood studios have committed to releasing with these access features in the months (and years!) to come. A list of current MoPix-equipped theaters, and the films and showtimes pertaining to each of those installations for this week will come to you in a separate e-mail with the subject line: MoPix Locations and Showtimes from WGBH, Mar 11-17.

ONE NEW FILM, ONE OLD FILM
Robots, an animated film from Twentieth Century Fox Films (rated PG) featuring the voices of Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Mel Brooks and Robin Williams debuts this week with closed captions and descriptive narration in select theaters equipped with MoPix systems. And back in theaters... The Passion of the Christ, which has been recut (or edited slightly, the film is being released unrated). If you recall, this film has subtitles, and we described the action and read the subtitles for movie patrons who are blind or have low vision. Ahh, now you remember this film from last year. Check the MoPix Films and Showtimes e-mail (posted separately) or the MoPix Web site (www.mopix.org) to learn about films and showtimes in your area.

UPDATE ON MOVIE ACCESS LEGAL ACTIONS IN NEW JERSEY
The office of the attorney general and the Division on Civil Rights for the state of New Jersey this week announced they have amended a discrimination complaint against Regal Cinemas. Originally, the complaint cited Regal's failure to provide access the state deemed appropriate to its theaters and films for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing. The amended complaint now includes a additional charge that Regal does not accommodate patrons who are blind or have low vision, a community that could be served by installation of the DVS Theatrical system, developed by WGBH.
