RIT/NTID Student Recognized for
Outstanding Performance on the Job

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 23—Allen Brokaw, a deaf student at Rochester Institute of Technology was recognized for his outstanding performance at the Picatinny Army Research Center in New Jersey, where he held a cooperative education position last summer.

Brokaw, a Mechanical Engineering Technology major from Trenton, N.J., was given a financial bonus and a special letter of commendation from Commander Scott Crizer of the Army Research Center, for the exemplary work he did designing an automatic system for locking a pallet to a platform. He was named co-inventor of the Automatic Pallet to Platform Locking System.

RIT is home to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the first and largest technological college in the world that offers access and support services, and educational programs to 1,100 deaf and hard-of-hearing students from around the world who study, live, and socialize with 14,400 hearing students.

Brokaw was offered a permanent position at the research center, upon graduation from RIT in May. He plans to take a break and travel before pursuing that career.
