MLC demands school for deaf, dumb of Dhadkai

Jammu, Mar 5: No special school for deaf and dumb was still established for more than seventy deaf and dumb persons in village Dhadkai of tehsil Gandoh of Doda district. The social welfare minister in a written reply to the query rose by Muhammad Iqbal Bhat, MLC Doda camp Gandoh, admitted this in the legislative council.

Government in the reply giving full particulars of the deaf and dumb persons of village Dhadkai of Gandoh tehsil said that more than sixty-five persons out of seventy-two deaf and dumb are receiving pension from the social welfare department.

Muhammad Iqbal Bhat, in his query solicited about the particulars of the deaf and dumb persons living in the village Dhadkai. He also asked about the number of beneficiaries who are in receipt of financial assistance from the social welfare department.

Bhat said that the state government has not set up any special educational facilities to the large scheduled tribe population. He said that the state government should take up proper steps to help and welfare of these down trodden people.

Minister of Social Welfare in his reply admitted that although the state government is regularly providing monthly pension, hearing aids and scholarship to the physically challenged persons. Beside under Lump Sum Aid scheme sewing machines along with tailoring kit are also being provided to these persons.

It is to be mention here that the story of deaf and dumb was carried out in Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma last year in which the problems being faced by the deaf and dump persons living in village Dhadkai of tehsil Gandoh of Doda district, was highlighted.
