Schools Prepare to Host Regional Academic Bowl Competitions for Deaf

(WASHINGTON, DC) Regional competitions for the ninth annual National Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students will begin early next year, with the top two teams from each region squaring off in the finals April 23-26 at Gallaudet University.

Conceived in 1997, the National Academic Bowl is sponsored by Gallaudet University, J.W.Marriott, Sorenson VRS and Verizon. The purpose is to foster the pursuit of academic excellence; promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship; and encourage social opportunities for collegiality among students.

The five regional competitions include the following:
West:
Feb. 17-20, 2005
Utah Association of the Deaf, Inc., Taylorsville, UT
(In conjunction with the Utah School for the Deaf and the Blind, and the Robert G. Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)

Southeast:
Feb. 24-27, 2005
South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind, Spartanburg, SC

Midwest:
March 3-6, 2005
Ohio School for the Deaf, Columbus OH

Mid-Atlantic:
March 10-13, 2005
Maryland School for the Deaf, Frederick MD

Northeast:
March 17-20, 2005
CAPS Collaborative at Monty Tech Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, Fitchburg, MA
