Announcement: A request for assistance from the deaf community….

Would you like to be involved in the training of interpreters?

Phoenix College's Interpreter Preparation Program is looking for five paid volunteers to assist in the training of soon to graduate interpreters.

We are currently recruiting deaf community members to be "guest speakers" in the interactive interpreting classes for the Spring semester. Guests will be paid $30 for their assistance. Your responsibilities will be to have conversations with the instructor of the class, which will be interpreted by the students and recorded on videotape for assessment of student work. In addition to that, we would also request that you allow us to film you prior to class for about ten minutes signing something related to the topic of the week. This short tape will be used in future classes as a prep for the students to prepare to interpret that topic.

The classes are held on Tuesdays from 1:20 – 4 pm. We would only need the guest to be there from 2:15 – 4 pm. Are you interested? We only need one guest per topic. Here's the scenarios we are looking for assistance with. If you have some expertise in these areas, please contact A Dreamer – faculty IPP Phoenix College
