TWO NTID EMPLOYEES AWARDED FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO STUDENTS

Their Work Eases Classroom Communication

ROCHESTER N.Y., Dec. 24—Pamela Francis and Michael Stinson, both of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a college of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), were recently awarded for their outstanding contributions to students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing at Bergen Community College (BCC), in New Jersey.

Francis, of Chili, is the coordinator of C-Print Development and Training. She was awarded for teaching workshops to C-Print captionists at BCC, as well as providing support to its students. C-Print is an NTID-developed speech-to-text transcription system, allowing deaf students to have immediate notes of a teacher's lecture.

Stinson, of Brighton, is a professor for the Department of Research at NTID. He was recognized for his support to the student body at BCC throughout a recent visit he and Francis made during Deaf Awareness Week.

At a recent luncheon, Francis and Stinson were recognized for their contributions and presented with a plaque. Some 2,000 students at BCC benefit from C-Print.

"The work of Dr. Stinson and Pam Francis has far reaching effects, and we are honored to be able to acknowledge them," said Beth Pincus, Senior Resource Accommodations Specialist at BCC.

NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. NTID, one of eight colleges of RIT, offers educational programs and access and support services to its 1,100 students from around the world who study, live, and socialize with 14,000 hearing students on RIT's Rochester, N.Y., campus.
