WAS TIFFANY GRANFORS, A CRONY OF AMMONS, DEAFLYMPICS GOLD MEDALIST?

Washington, D.C., USA – The always-reliable and illustrious magazine, GALLAUDET TODAY, the official publication of Gallaudet University, in its latest Fall, 2004, quarterly issue ( see Class News and Notes, page number 42 ) published an interesting material about its alumna, Miss Tiffany Granfors.

The magazine, by presenting her photo with the Olympic rings and by extolling Miss Granfors' background, among the other things, quoted a lofty and eye-catching statement such as,

Miss Granfors, Class of 1989, as a "World Games for the Deaf gold medalist, secretary general to both USA Deaf Track and Field organization and Deaflympics, coach, mom."

However, this magazine's statement is a questionable one.

According to the official CISS records, there is no name of Miss Granfors as "a World Games for the Deaf ( now known as the Deaflympic Games ) gold medalist."

The official records published in the CISS Bulletin Number131, April, 1986 issue show that Miss Granfors, under her then maiden surname of Williams, competed as a member of the USA athletics team at the 15th Deaflympics Summer Games held in 1985 in Los Angeles, California, USA. There Miss Granfors, as this CISS publication reports, participated in the hepthatlon event, in which she finished in the last place!

Another questionable item published in the GALLAUDET TODAY article was that

currently Miss Granfors is not the Secretary General of the CISS/Deaflympics yet! The fact is that Miss Granfors now works in the office of the CISS/Deaflympics as its home administrator and subordinate to Miss Ammons, the CISS/Deaflympics Secretary General-anarchist.

In addition, there is a document received from Italy which demonstrates the following fact related to Miss Granfors' credibility.

On February 14, 2004, in Fuessen, Germany, there was held a meeting involving Miss Ammons, Miss Granfors, the top officials of the EDSO ( European Deaf Sports Organization ), Mr. Lennart Edwall of Sweden and Miss Isabelle Malaurie of France and the deaf sports leaders from Italy.

At that meeting, according to a published statement made by the Italians, Miss Granfors introduced herself as "an American lady representing CIO of Lausanne."

CIO is an acronym in French for the IOC or International Olympic Committee.

The interesting thing is that did the IOC or CIO ever allow or authorize Miss Granfors, a deaf person and CISS part-time employee, to represent its internationally-reputable and non-deaf sports organization at that February 14, 2004 all-deaf-people-only meeting in Germany?

Regretfully, this is the second time this year that a deaf lady from the USA and USADSF member has provided misleading and untruthful information to the media.

Only few months ago, Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins, the current President of the USADSF and NAD Board member from Frankfort, Kentucky, USA, managed to submit her inaccurate information to a newspaper reporter. This highly-dubious, irresponsible act and misinformation by Dr. Scoggins did not, however, prevent her from being selected as one of 480 ( out of 10,000 applicants in the USA alone! ) for the 2004 Olympic Games Relay Torch runners.
