Sprint Walk Raises $14,000 for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Organizations in Austin, Texas

Sprint held its ninth annual Sprint Walk at the Texas School for the Deaf on Saturday, November 13. Despite a cold day, more than 200 people participated in the event, which raised more than $14,000 for four local deaf and hard of hearing organizations. Benefiting from the event are Camp Sign, a summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children, Deaf Abused Women and Children Advocacy Services (DAWCAS) which provides services and advocacy for its clients and education and information for the legal and medical professions, Texas School for the Deaf Foundation, and the Travis County Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Holiday Fund, which provides food, clothing and other services to its clients during holiday seasons.

Sprint has been the provider for Telecommunications Relay Services, known as Relay Texas, since 1990.

"As in the past, this was a very, very successful event," said Kathy Ahlschwede, Walk Coordinator and supervisor at Sprint Relay Texas in Austin, Texas. "This is a way we can give back to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. It's an event that comes from the heart and focuses on families and children." Since 1996, Sprint Relay Texas has raised more than $130,000 for deaf and hard of hearing organizations.
