Johnson named KSD girls coach

From: Danville Advocate, KY - Nov 9, 2004

Scott Johnson, a former boys middle school basketball coach at Kentucky School for the Deaf, has been named the school's girls basketball coach.

KSD athletic director Paul Smiley said he's sure Johnson will work well with the team.

"He's an outstanding person and an outstanding coach as well," Smiley said. "He did an excellent job with our middle school team.

"He'll do a good job not only teaching basketball but also the really important things like helping them develop values for their lives."

Johnson was the boys middle school coach at KSD for the past two years, and he has also served as an assistant girls basketball coach there. He also has coaching experience in sports such as swimming and track and field.

He replaces Kevin Hamilton, who coached the KSD girls for the last two seasons but is now the school's boys basketball coach.

"I'm looking forward to the new challenge and tougher competition on the varsity level," Johnson said. "And I've got a very nice group of girls."

The KSD roster includes four returnees who saw significant playing time last year.

"That's a good foundation to start with," Johnson said.
