Deaf students to start school

THE THREE hearing-impaired students who have been forced to stay at home for the last month, are expected to start school at the Barataria Junior Secondary School later this week. Chief education officer, Paula Daniel confirmed this for reporters yesterday at a Ministry of Education conference at the Crowne Plaza, stating that the Belmont and Barataria Junior Secondary Schools have been identified as schools where the students, Anya Adams, Michael Auguste and Joseph Yee-Chan are to be placed. She said a qualified facilitator has also been recruited. Daniel admitted that it was the ministry's fault initially in not placing the students at schools with facilitators, especially since they had filled out forms informing the ministry of their disability. The students and their parents are expected to meet with the school principal later this week, before starting school.
