From: WCAX, VT - Sept 9, 2004

RUTLAND, Vt. The Rutland school district has settled a lawsuit filed on behalf of a hearing impaired student who claimed he was not provided a certified sign language interpreter. The city school district agreed to provide Nathan Netsch with an interpreter certified in American Sign Language.

The lawsuit claimed Nathan Netsch could not take part in his classes without the interpreter.

A settlement was reached in the case late last month.

Nathan Netsch, a senior at Rutland High School, is profoundly hard of hearing.

He's planning to go to college and study mechanical engineering.
