Parents, staff and children at Elmfield School for Deaf Children in Bristol are celebrating after achieving national recognition for its arts work.

The Artsmark award, which is presented by Arts Council England, is awarded to schools offering opportunities across the range of arts.

It follows the school's success in achieving the Basic Skills Quality Mark last year, the first school for deaf children in the UK to do so.

The award, presented by the Basic Skills Agency, recognises the school's raising of children's numeracy, literacy and communication skills.

Headteacher Ros Way said: "I'm delighted with the recognition by the Arts Council of the school's commitment to providing our pupils with the chance to develop their skills and enjoy enriching experiences across the arts field."
