Police Searching For Man Who Raped Deaf LDS Missionary

Salt Lake City Police are looking for a man who brutally attacked a woman.

The victim is a part-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is deaf and can't speak.

On her way to Temple Square yesterday morning just before six, she walked behind the State Office of Education building.

A man hit her over the head..raped her..then ran off with her purse.

Det. Dwayne Baird: "EVEN AT THAT TIME OF THE MORNING, WHEN YOU'RE OUT AND ABOUT, STAY IN LIGHTED AREAS, STAY ON SIDEWALKS AND CROSSWALKS, NEAR INTERSECTIONS, WHERE YOU'RE NOT BEHIND A BUILDING WHERE SOMEONE CAN COME UP FROM BEHIND."

The suspect's age is not clear...but he's white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a slim build and blonde hair...and was wearing jeans and a light-colored t-shirt.
