NTID'S WARFIELD WINS "UNSUNG HEROES" AWARD

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 14—Thomas Warfield, director of Dance for RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf, received the 2004 "Unsung Heroes" award, given annually by Mayor William Johnson, Jr., to individuals and groups who work diligently to improve the quality of life in the City of Rochester.

Warfield was awarded for his work with PeaceArt International, an organization he founded to facilitate greater human understanding through the arts. Through PeaceArt, Warfield has presented concerts and workshops in schools, hospitals, community centers, seminaries, homeless shelters, and correctional facilities locally and around the world.

As a faculty member at NTID, Warfield helps increase both the technical and artistic skills of many deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Warfield also performed at Rochester's annual ARTWalk Festival, organized a fundraising performance for a scholarship at the Eastman School of Music, and is a vocal soloist at Unity Church.

"Thomas Warfield is a selfless person—one who is constantly looking for ways to help others. He has utilized his considerable talent to benefit our community in a host of ways," said Johnson.
NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. One of the eight colleges of RIT, NTID offers educational programs and access and support services to its 1,100 students from all around the world who study, live and socialize with 14,400 hearing students on RIT's Rochester, N.Y., campus.
