10 boys prosecuted for deaf girl's rape

From: Expatica, Netherlands - Jul 7, 2004

AMSTERDAM − Ten male youths will be put on trial for the group rape of a 14-year-old girl with hearing problems in the Dutch city Zoetermeer, the public prosecution said on Wednesday.

The girl − a student of the Effatha school for the deaf − lodged a police alleging in October 2003 alleging she was sexually and investigations into the incident have since been completed.

It is not yet known when the suspects − aged 14 to 17 − will appear in court in The Hague. The hearing will be conducted behind closed doors because the defendants are juveniles.

The girl is alleged to have been sexually abused on various occasions in school toilets, hallways or outside the school building − sometimes very briefly − when there was no direct teacher supervision.
