BERKELEY -- The deadline is approaching to register for a walk-a-thon to raise money for the Center for the Education of the Infant Deaf in Berkeley.

The Orinda Junior Women's Club is sponsoring the 5-mile walk from the Moraga Commons Park to the Lafayette Community Center and back. The walk kicks off at 10 a.m. April 25.

Registration is $150, due by March 31. Those who do not wish to walk can sponsor a child from the center to walk for a $150 registration fee.

The center, which includes 18 teachers, speech therapists, home visit specialists, community outreach trainers and others trained in physical therapy, occupational therapy and pediatrics, is raising funds for a new permanent location in Berkeley.

Founded by Orinda resident Jill Ellis in 1980, the center's programs help deaf children and those with a hearing loss develop language and communication skills.

For more information or to register, send an e-mail to linda@ceid.org or call the center at 527-5544 and a registration form will be mailed to you. For more information on the center, check out the Web site at www.ceid.org
