From: Business Wire (press release) - USA - Feb 9, 2004

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 2004--

Airespace Platform Supports Educational Programs and Services Specifically Designed to Accommodate Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

Airespace, Inc. announced today that Gallaudet University, the world's only university in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students, has deployed Airespace as a strategic platform for the delivery of Wireless LAN (WLAN) services across its Washington D.C. campus. Gallaudet provides one of the world's best interactive visual learning environments, supported by continuously evolving advanced technologies. By providing students, faculty, and guests with a WLAN platform for the delivery of data and video applications, Gallaudet is furthering the educational experience, allowing students and faculty to learn, collaborate, and share information securely, and with complete mobility.

"We were interested in a wireless product that incorporated a strong security scheme with technical stability, ease of setup into our network, minimal maintenance, and thorough customer service; our Technical staff found all of this with Airespace. From a management perspective, the Airespace system was most appealing because it offered a complete hardware and software package with built-in options for the future," said Meloyde Batten-Mickens, Technology Infrastructure Manager, Gallaudet University.

Initial deployment of the Airespace solution began in September 2003, with the installation of 63 Access Points (APs) across nine buildings on Gallaudet's Washington D.C. campus. In subsequent months, the network deployment has grown to include over 150 APs serving 32 buildings, including classrooms, residence buildings, dining halls, a hotel/conference center, an elementary and middle schools, and field house.

The Gallaudet wireless network consists of Airespace 4100 WLAN Appliances, Airespace 4000 WLAN switches, Airespace 1200 Access Points, and Airespace Control System (ACS) Software, which handles policy and device configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of the Airespace wireless network. In addition, Gallaudet is leveraging Airespace's unique AireWave Director(TM) Software to establish an intelligent RF control plane throughout its multi-building campus. This enables the wireless network to dynamically adjust to changing RF conditions in real time, ensuring optimum performance and air-tight security for all WLAN users.

"Airespace provided a complete system that met all of Gallaudet's technical requirements for a secure wireless LAN," said Bruce Brooks, Project Manager at Ease Technologies, a technology consulting firm responsible for working with Gallaudet staff to deliver a campus-wide wireless network. "The system was remarkably easy to install and operate, exceeding our already high expectations for WLAN implementation."

"Gallaudet is an exceptional institution that is constantly striving to deliver the best educational experience to its guests and constituents," said Alan Cohen, vice president of marketing at Airespace. "Airespace is pleased to be working with the university to deliver wireless services that are easy to manage and robust enough to handle the rigors of this world-class organization."
