Some babies born with serious hearing-loss now have hope

From: WHOI, IL - Jan 6, 2004

Doctors in Chicago gave this eight-month-old a cochlear implant after he was born almost completely deaf.

The device is placed just under the skin, and then magnetized to an exterior unit.

Baby Kevin responded well once the implant was activated.

Cochlear implants have been around for about 20 years, but baby Kevin is the youngest patient to ever get the surgery.
