From: Democrat and Chronicle, NY - Dec 12, 2003

Staff Report

(December 12, 2003) — The New York State Park Police determined that no criminal misconduct was involved in the death of a Rochester Institute of Technology student who died last month while camping at Allegany State Park, RIT officials said.

Autopsy results released Thursday by the Erie County, Pa., Coroner’s Office concluded that the cause of death for Jerry Hopkins could not be determined, RIT officials said in a news release.

Hopkins, 36, was an applied computer technology student at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Hopkins was camping with friends from Kappa Phi Theta, a fraternity for deaf or hard-of-hearing students, which continues to serve an interim suspension.

A memorial service is being planned for Hopkins.
