Man committed to stand trial

More than 14 months after the death of Darbys Falls man, 37-year-old Paul Anthony Callaway, William Patrick Heffernan has been committed to stand to trial for his murder., The body of Callaway was found in the backyard of his home early on Sunday morning, August 25, 2002, with substantial trauma to the side of his head consistent to a blow from a piece of wood., Heffernan and a woman were arrested at 5.15pm that evening and Mr Heffernan was later charged with the murder of Mr Callaway., The second part of a committal hearing into whether there was enough evidence to convict the 36-year-old took place last Thursday, November 6, at Cowra Local Court., At the hearing the Crown's key witness, a deaf mute Cowra woman, concluded several hours of testimony that had commenced on an earlier occasion, giving evidence of the events she saw unfold on August 24 and 25 last year through an interpreter., Heffernan has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge through his representative, solicitor Nick Boyden, however Magistrate Phillip Moon found there was sufficient evidence for a reasonable jury to convict Heffernan and sentenced him to appear at a Supreme Court trial at a time and place yet to be fixed.,
