Grant to help expand program for the deaf

From: Columbia State, SC - Nov 8, 2003

A three-year, $1.56 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education will be used to link the Converse College Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Program with similar programs throughout the country.

The grant, announced this week, will be used to purchase Web-based videoconferencing equipment that will allow the Spartanburg school to share teaching methods with other institutions.

Student teachers and faculty will collect data and share successful practices for teaching deaf and hard of hearing people.

Other institutions involved in the project include the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind, Kent State University, Illinois State University and the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.
