Online Community for the Deaf Shows Holiday Spirit

La Jolla, Calif. (PRWEB) November 28, 2003 – ClubDeaf.com, the first online community for the Deaf featuring state-of-the-art videoconferencing technology, today announced that they will continue to offer free memberships through January 1, 2004.

ClubDeaf.com is the first service designed to provide Deaf people ease of communication with friends and family using SightSpeed's high-quality videoconferencing software that far surpasses existing technology. People can now have signed conversations with each other that are as close to being in person as you can get with just a PC, web camera and a broadband Internet connection.

"The Holidays have always been a time to gather with friends and family," said Bert Pickell, co-CEO of ClubDeaf.com. "Our aim is to provide the best and easiest way for Deaf people to keep in touch no matter how far away their friends or family may be. By extending free memberships to everyone throughout this Holiday Season, we hope that the Deaf community will take the opportunity to get in touch with their friends and family that they cannot be with over the holidays."

"To be able to offer the industry-leading software at no charge during this time means a great deal to all of us at ClubDeaf.com. The speed and clarity of the video that I've seen by using the SightSpeed software is truly an amazing leap forward when I compared it to other videoconferencing products. When having a signed conversation, I find the difference to be invaluable and we want to pass along that experience to as many sign language users as possible over this year's Holiday Season," says Pickell.

Sign-language users with a PC, a high-speed Internet service (such as DSL or cable modem), and a web camera can use ClubDeaf.com. Upon signing up for the service, an automatic download of the software will take place and the user is ready to go. Adding people to your personal buddy list only requires knowing their email address (they do have to sign up as well).
