DESPITE their disability, nine deaf and mute students graduated with certificates, alongside 1,054 students at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PSA) recently.

These students shared the limelight with five others who won Best Student Awards.

The five top students are: Mohd Farhi Bahadun from the Civil Engineering Department who won the Overall Best Student Award, Syaiful Anwar Sirat (Mechanical Engineering), Chin Shiau Wei (Electrical Engineering), Rahayu Abdul (Commerce) and Tiong But Lin (part-time course).

The convocation for both diploma and certificate students was witnessed by guest-of-honour Datuk Ambrin Buang, secretary-general of the Education Ministry.

Established in July 1997 with 640 students, PSA today has about 5,000 students. It is an institution specialising in providing technical education and training in the fields of engineering and business.

Since its inception, PSA has launched strategic plans to instil standards of quality among its staff and students. These efforts were rewarded in 1999 when the institution was awarded the MS ISO 9002 status by Sirim.

Recently, PSA was shortlisted as one of the finalists for the Prime Minister's Excellence Award.
