Hall of Fame: Ronald Rice

Hall of Fame: Oregon City man elected to honor in New York Oregon City's Ronald P. Rice will be inducted in the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology Sports Hall of Fame. He is one of six people who will be honored at the 35th annual induction dinner Nov. 8 in Rochester.

Swimming for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf from 1974 to 1978, Rice won 82 of 85 races and broke numerous school and pool records. He was second in career points and led the team in scoring all four seasons.

Rice, who was an All-American, placed in the 200-yard freestyle at the 1974-75 NCAA championships with a time of 1 minute, 48.1 seconds. He was named World Deaf Athlete of the Year and American Athletic Association of the Deaf Athlete of the Year in 1973. In 1994, he was inducted into the American Athletic Association of the Deaf Hall of Fame.
