First national championship for deaf women in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) The National capital will host the first National Sports Championship for Deaf Women from October 30 to November 4.

About 300 deaf women from 15 states will vie for top honours at the event to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi stadiums under the aegis of the All India Sports Council of the Deaf.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is expected to inaugurate the championship, according to the organisers.

There will be individual and doubles events like badminton, table tennis, chess, swimming, carrom and cycling as also team sports like basketball and volleyball.

The championship will be organised in the capital by the Delhi Foundation of Deaf Women, which is involved in rehabilitation programmes in the educational, social and cultural fields.
